Are you leaving money on the table in your business? Do you fully maximize every connection and contact? If you’re like most entrepreneurs, probably not. Can you get more from your business dealings with less work? For sure. Would you like to know how?
Here are some tips and secrets that I have found work very well to get more from people and connections that I meet and do business with WHILE making people feel more cared for, valued and respected. That’s a win-win combination!
Secret #1 - Tell people as little as possible about yourself. Instead, find out what they do and what they are looking for.
Secret #2 - Then create Joint Ventures and Strategic Alliances with a wide variety of entrepreneurs and business opportunities so you become a Master Netweaver.
Let me explain because this newsletter alone could double your income this year!
Last week I attended the Wild West Wealth Summit in Calgary. It was a fabulous event with about 120 amazing entrepreneurs in attendance with speakers in from all over the world. However, I noticed that most people were busy promoting themselves and were very focused on looking for “prospects” for their business.
To be honest, every time I heard a speaker or attendee use the word “prospect” I cringed. As I talk about in my Heart to Heart Selling CD, the words “suspect”, “prospect” and “customer” are more reminiscent of a cat and mouse game, not the business of a Spiritual Entrepreneur.
Rather, I choose to use words such as “potential partner” and “client” to describe my relationships with people. I resent being anyone’s suspect or prospect but the idea of being in partnership with someone is exciting and inviting and the word client implies more value and respect than the word customer.
When asked what I did during this event, I said as little as I could. Instead I chose words such as author, minister and coach for spiritual entrepreneurs that piqued interest. But as quickly as possible I switched the conversation to them. “What do you do?” I would ask. They were always quite happy to tell me in great detail about their business and what they did.
People like to talk about themselves, have you noticed? And that’s a good thing because if you listen, you can learn a lot about people, what they are looking for, their strengths and weaknesses and how you can be of assistance.
By learning about them rather than preaching about yourself, you put yourself in a very strategic position. Let’s say they just told you that they want to build a new website but haven’t found the right web designer and programmer. Rather than immediately thinking: I’m a massage therapist, not a web programmer. I can’t help, conversation closed, get out of your own small box of thinking and ask yourself: Do I know someone who I can recommend in this arena?
The next important question is: Do you have a Joint Venture agreement with that person or company so that they will pay you for any referrals you send to them? If not, I suggest that you set that up immediately. Be sure it is with someone you can wholeheartedly endorse and does amazing work. This is just one example.
It is far easier and less time-consuming for you to connect people and let other’s do their work with these people than for you to personally work with them and yet you can still get paid, sometimes many times over. This same person may have several needs that you can fill when you stop thinking about the limits of your own service or products.
Start thinking: Do I know anyone who can help them this person with a solution? Many of those connections, if they use them, will put money in your pocket and all you needed to do was connect, refer and be a netweaver, rather than a networker.
Are you seeing how you could do more of this in your business? The purpose of speaking to anyone is to ascertain how you can be of service and benefit to this person. It may be your business but if they don’t need your service or product, most people walk away having decided that there is no business to be done with this person. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Working with a number of business opportunities gives me the ability to match people looking for a business. I never talk to anyone about what businesses I have up my sleeve to offer them until I find out if they are looking for a business, what they are looking for, what criteria they have set for that business and how serious they are about finding and working that business. If they are looking for a business opportunity for which I have a match, I then share it with them. If they are looking for something that doesn’t match something I am personally doing, I pull my mental files
and see if there is someone else who may be able to help them with a different opportunity.
I may have a strategic alliance set up with that person or I may simply refer and let the Universe reciprocate in it’s own due time and appropriate way.
Rather than being completely focused on what you do and what you have to offer, by focusing on your potential partner’s needs, wants and desires, you have an amazing opportunity to:
• increase your income without increasing your workload
• become well-known and respected for being of service to others and
• have more services and businesses in your repertoire without appearing
fragmented or unfocused.
Can you start to see some tremendous benefits to your bottom line with these suggestions?
Most people will never know that I am involved in network marketing because I don’t preach to them about the latest vitamin, potion or gizmo that I think is the latest and the greatest. The honest truth is that people don’t care that the product you’re selling saved your life, that you lost 12 pounds in a month drinking a particular juice, or that you have more beautiful glowing skin because of some skincare program. They couldn’t care less – promise! They care about themselves, their worries, concerns,
frustrations and their dreams and goals.
How much better to ask them through the art of conversation what they are looking for, how you can assist them in their life and how you can connect them with people, products and services that can help them in their pursuits, rather than what you have on your agenda.
Why don’t more people do this? This is important so pay close attention because this will distinguish you as a truly effective spiritual entrepreneur.
People are afraid that if they don’t promote themselves, their product and their services, there won’t be any business for them.
That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Entrepreneurs who are primarily in service to others and have learned to become effective netweavers through Joint Ventures and Strategic Alliances become well-known, well-respected and well-paid for their efforts. Learn this tool and you will never lack for funds.
Secondly, people are conditioned to talk about themselves so it is simply a bad habit to have verbal diarrhea when people ask you what you do. They are on a rampage to get out their message before anybody stops them or walks away.
But think about this honestly: Isn’t it true that there is nothing more off-putting than having some completely self-centered entrepreneurial lunatic corner you, oblivious to your incredible discomfort. We’ve all been victim. Have we been guilty of doing the same to others? Probably. It’s time to move past that mind-set of lack and inconsiderateness into abundance and genuine interest in others.
I strongly urge you to read this newsletter several times and make a list of how you can expand your horizons in this arena. Rather than become unfocused in your endeavors, you can learn how to maximize your time, connections and the effectiveness of every conversation you have with a person.
Do that and watch your income grow while your satisfaction of being in service and your reputation as someone who cares grows exponentially!
Have an amazing month of being in service to others.
To Your Outrageous Success!
