How powerful are you? How powerful do you think you are? Have you even thought about it? Something I discuss with my healing clients is that the power that moves the Pacific Ocean is within you. No, I am not kidding. You are way more powerful than you know and act. Promise! Let me explain because this one point could dramatically impact the way you live your life.

Sometime between conception and birth a life force or Spirit comes into that union between the sperm and the egg. Once we are born, our life force or Spirit fully supports our life through breath. We live until we breath the last breath of life and our Spirit goes out. At that time, we expire.

Have you ever asked yourself: Where did that Spirit come from and where does it go when it leaves us? I believe that it came from what I’ve called the “Universal Ocean of Spirit”. I’m referring to the same Universal Ocean of Spirit that created the heavens and earth, the same Spirit that keeps the sun, moon and stars in alignment and the same Spirit that moves the oceans every day. Just think about that. The same Spirit that moves the oceans around the world is operative in you.

Let me ask you: Have you ever tried to move a waterbed mattress that had any water left in it? Have you ever moved a heavy bucket of water? Pretty heavy, isn’t it? Did you know that a bathtub full of water weighs over 400 pounds? Imagine what the weight of the Pacific Ocean is as it covers over 165,000,000 square kilometers or 28% of the planet’s surface! If you have problems lifting a bucket of water, imagine the force or power that is required to move the Pacific Ocean. And yet the tides come in and out daily, incomprehensible quantities of water get moved on this planet each and every day. The same power is operating within you as your breath of life or
Spirit.

How can I say that? Think about this. If you were to pull a bucket of water out of the Pacific Ocean and take it to a science lab to be examined, you would discover that the very same properties that are in the large body of water, the Pacific Ocean, is in the bucket of water you extracted from it. And if you dumped that bucket of water into the ocean again, it will meld back into the ocean. You could never pull out that exact same bucket of water.

So if our Spirit or life force comes from that Universal Ocean of Spirit, we have all of the same properties of the Spirit that created heaven and earth, keeps the sun, moon and stars in alignment and is responsible for moving the oceans through tides every single day. The same power, no difference. And when we expire and that life force returns, it returns to the Universal Ocean of Spirit to be used for the next life or creation or work that needs to be done in the Universe.

That means that you have the power that moves oceans within you. You have the power that holds the moon in place within you. It’s the very same Spirit. Do you recognize that power? Probably not, but it’s true. Just as much as that bucket of water extracted from the Pacific Ocean still contains the properties of the Pacific Ocean, your bucket (or body) contains all of the properties of Spirit within it.

In the Bible book of Genesis, it talks about “Spirit” being responsible for the creation of heaven and earth. It further states that God breathed into Adam the “breath of life”. I’m not so sure as a minister I buy into that story, but as a writer I am fascinated by the words and how they positively affect my spiritual life.

Myth or reality, I do understand from a study of language that what was recounted in Genesis indicates that Spirit is responsible for creation and for life.

Actually, the Greek word for “Spirit” is pneuma, meaning breath. (Our English word pneumonia comes from the root word pneuma.) The word “Spirit” comes from the Latin word “spiritus” meaning breath. Interestingly the words “spiritual” and “respiratory” are both derived from the same Latin word. So our life and spirituality are very much connected with our breath. Undoubtedly this is why so many Eastern religions incorporate breathing into their spiritual practices such as seen in yoga.

If that life force, that Spirit within us is so powerful, why don’t we feel more powerful? One of the primary reasons is that we were never taught or told we were powerful. Many of us were raised with the belief that we are sinners, weak and imperfect humans, undeserving and unworthy. Not a great recipe for power.

We also often equate power with arrogance or dictatorship, selfishness and greed. However, power is truly a source of happiness and joy when used properly. Haven’t you felt wonderful when you had the power to make a difference in someone’s life? Did you not feel a real sense of purpose as you stepped into your power and went for something that was important to you?

The Spirit within you is powerful. It moves oceans. It can certainly move your life however you wish it. It is at your command. Use the power within you to move obstacles within your life. Know that you are powerful and that you have everything within you, with every breath you take, to create change in your life, to create change in the world.
