The tomato plant at Monique’s home where I was house-sitting last month had lots of yellow flowers. Before Monique left for her holiday, she said to me, “Jan, you’ll have plenty of cherry tomatoes while I am gone.” I anxiously watched and waited. I even remembered to water the plant during the unseasonably hot weather for Vancouver. Now that’s commitment for me! But only one cherry tomato formed from all of those yellow flowers.
What happened? Apparently, there is a shortage of bees and without bees…
there are no tomatoes! Besides the alarming nature of that comment from an
ecological aspect, I was reminded of something in my own business. And what I am about to say may shock you.
Many of you may remember an article I wrote some months back that I don’t do social bookmarking. Don’t ask me to join Facebook, MySpace, or LinkedIn, and I had my rant about the way internet marketing was headed. I wasn’t very happy about its direction and the very social aspect of internet marketing.
Well, I have done a 180 degree turnaround. Today you will find me on Squidoo, Digg, Twitter and I have an article waiting to be posted at Ezine Articles. What happened? No, I did not get sunstroke!
What I realized is that just like the tomato plants that need bees to create produce, I needed more customers online to create leveraged income. Having a website is simply not enough anymore. I have five of them but it’s not doing the trick! I have a fabulous off-line business built entirely on referrals and for that I am truly grateful. But that is NOT leveraged income. Every client I work with is trading time for dollars and as I move into the next level of my financial freedom goals, my focus needs to shift.
One of my readers, Irene Kirkman, suggested I look at Renegade University. I ignored her. I told her I was too busy. I said I wasn’t interested. You know the excuses. Until one morning, it was like the Universe hit me over the head and said, “Jan, will you stop being so stinkin’ stubborn. We’re trying to provide you with what you are asking for and you are not listening.”
Considering that I have a very serious agreement with the Universe that I will listen and take the gentle nudgings that I receive to move in appropriate
directions, I went and took a look. Well last Sunday when I created my first
Squidoo lens and published it, you would think I had just received a check for $10,000. I was pretty excited. I am continuing to learn and grow under the expert tutelage of Mike Klingler, founder of the Renegade University.
Why am I telling you this? This newsletter is dedicated to helping Spiritual
Entrepreneurs grow their businesses so they can have the time, resources and energy to make a significant difference in the world. Without the time or money, it is hard to do more than a token. If the lack of bees for the tomato plants is any indication, time is of the essence!

What a beautiful spiritual principle. It’s about being considerate of other people’s opinions, time, money and way of doing business. Rather than the obnoxious, evangelist type of sales person online marketing and network marketing has become infamous for, Mike is promoting a way of doing business that certainly resonates with me.
I think you will be most impressed also. I rarely promote anything in the body of this newsletter and typically provide exactly what Mike suggests – good content. However, I am going to highly recommend that you do two things.

tomorrow. This will expose you to two technologies. Go to Meeting is an
excellent way of doing webinars and if you have never been on one, now
is a good time. Secondly you will learn about Twitter.
2. Check out Renegage University. The first level which contains excellent
material is free of charge. I am now paying $39.95 per month for the
amazing tutorials that Mike has put together and I am thrilled beyond
words with the value.
Many of the resources that Mike teaches about in the Renegade University are offered at no or low-cost. Does it get any better than that? Growing your
business, bringing swarms of potential clients to your business and doing it all from the comfort of your own home.
It’s funny because I thought social marketing was more “social” than I wanted to be. As one of my friends calls me, “exclusive, reclusive and elusive,” the idea of hanging out with a bunch of groupies on the internet was highly unappealing! However, I now get that I can have everything I desire in my lifestyle – time, more money, freedom and the ability to do my business from anywhere in the world, to an even greater level with social marketing tools.

I confess. I was ignorant and somewhat arrogant when it comes to what is known as Web 2.0. I was wrong in discouraging you from pursuing that avenue of growing your business.
