I just finished reading Three Cups of Tea last night or maybe it was early morning. I just know that it´s been a book that´s hard to put down. If you haven´t read it, I highly recommend you do.
It´s the compelling story of Greg Mortenson, a former mountain climber who ends up building schools for kids in the most rural of places in Afghanistan and Pakistan. His focus is educating girls which is quite something considering he is right in the Taliban´s backyard.
What I loved most about the book (and there were many things I loved) was the unwavering commitment to his mission. Greg Mortenson just knows that he is on the planet to build schools in these rural villages. He is driven, passionate, focused and definitely guided and protected to do so.
Besides wanting to contribute to his endeavors, I have felt inspired to remember that it takes just one person to make a difference in the world. You don´t have to be Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey to create a change. You don´t need a million dollars in the bank and you don´t need a special gift. You just need to decide to do it.
I´ve been mulling over this story since I first heard about it a few months before I got my hands on the book. It´s easy to put off making a difference, to say that I´ll do more when I have more time or more money or I´m older. It´s easy to let the day to day running of life get in the way. I´m feeling differently about that after reading Three Cups of Tea.
What difference do you want to make in the world? Put the fears aside for just a moment and let your mind go to what you really want to do. Then read Three Cups of Tea if you haven´t already and see what comes up for you.
If you´ve read Three Cups of Tea, I´d love to hear how it moved you.
