One of the exciting things about investigating a new city is that exploring becomes a daily practice. Even small things like finding a hair salon, the post office and where to take your garbage is something that needs to be learned.
Sedona is definitely a different city. There is no bus service and although I have been told there is a taxi service, I haven´t seen anything that resembles a taxi around town. I am walking everywhere and loving it. It´s hard to not be in a place of absolute bliss when you are surrounded with gorgeous red rocks, blue sky and the amazing energy that Sedona is famous for.
It´s also the only place I have ever traveled in the world that raw sprouts are considered a meal. For a long-time vegetarian (technically a pescarian as I eat fish), even I am astounded at the thought that I would pay money to sit and eat a plate of sprouts. Yet, that seems quite common here in Sedona. When I was asked by the waitress about whether or not I liked the plate of sprouts which were adorned with a few shredded carrots and something that resembled a wrapper, I said no. She looked at me in disbelief. She actually seemed stunned that I wouldn´t find a plate of sprouts for $6 appealing! My problem entirely. My perception of the menu item was way off. I must have been suffering some heat stroke when I read what I was ordering or they are just very good copy writers!
I also realize that people´s perception of distance is way off. One woman told me that the natural market was a long ways away and implied that I definitely wouldn´t want to walk there. I walked it in less than 25 minutes. Another man told me that the restaurant was just a jaunt down the road. I walked a half hour. That is more than a hop skip and a jump as he implied.
That´s the fascinating part of living and travelling around the world. I get to appreciate daily that it is all perception as I form mine about the many new things I am experiencing. So as I create my amazing life and as you create yours, remember that we´re dreaming it all up anyways, it´s entirely our perspective and so we may as well make it good.
