I sure wasn´t eating my breakfast outside this morning but the pancakes were still fabulous! (For the recipe check yesterday´s post that contained a divine blueberry buttermilk pancake recipe.) Fires in the desert caused a real haze in the air and just opening my front door this morning was like walking through a smoke-filled room. All day, the usual quiet of Sedona has been marred by the sound of helicopters with long hoses hanging from them. It´s hard to think of the devastation and hardship on the desert. The monsoons are long overdue this year and rain has been incredibly scarce.
In my book, Getting Off the Merry-Go-Round, I talk about how we pick up beliefs that aren´t ours, Tribal Mentality beliefs, that are as difficult to avoid as walking through a smoke-filled room. Opening my front door this morning reminded me of why I was downloaded that analogy while writing the book. I couldn´t have been outside at 7:30 this morning without getting a good dose of acrid smoke up my nostrils.
We´ve all picked up beliefs that aren´t working in our lives. Beliefs such as: You´re not good enough. Money doesn´t come easily. Easy come, easy go. Easier said than done. You can´t make that much money! There are millions of beliefs that we have inhaled and absorbed that are neither positive, encouraging or bringing us what we want in our lives.
How do we identify those beliefs? Look at an area where you don´t like the results and write down what you really believe about this topic. Just start writing or talking to a friend about what you really, really believe. You might be surprised, or even horrified but you will definitely get some insights!
In the meantime, I´m praying that the fires can be put out quickly.
