The dog was more relaxed than me!
On Monday I had the most amazing massage. Nadia is originally from Bulgaria, worked in France for 10 yeaers and has been practicing in San Marcos for 11 years. She does an unusual combination of massage with includes a deep abdominal Chinese massage called Chi Nei Tsang. Whatever she does is incredible.
Despite the outside noise of people walking along the paths of San Marcos, the dogs barking and the firecrackers going off with Christmas and New Years, I have rarely felt as relaxed as I am in her healing room. Monday was my second session with her and as I opened my eyes and went to get up from the table, there was Jeannie, her dog, fast asleep with her nose in my clothes. She was even more relaxed than I was!
I couldn´t resist wrapping the towel around me and quiety getting my camera out of my bag. She was the perfect photo. I´m not sure if she was drooling or not but I knew that it was time to take my clothes to the laundry.
There are no machines here at Pasajcap so I either have the choice of having my clothes hand washed here by a washing woman and hung on the line or taking them into San Marcos and having them washed and dried by machine.
Having lived in Ecuador where our clothes were scrubbed clean by very enthusiastic washing women, I knew the consequences of hand washing. Although the clothes were always more than clean, they also wore out very, very quickly. The combination of a scrub brush, cement and some serious muscle was more than hard on the cothes. Remembering that, I opted for the machines. At least this time. I go into town this afternoon to pick up my 7.5 pounds of clothes. They actually weigh your clothes and charge you by the pound. The whole ordeal is costing me about $5.
Tomorrow I am having a facial in Santa Cruz where I spent Christmas and then heading into Panajachel to see about my cell phone. I bought a cell phone here on the recommendation of my landlord as everyone has one and uses them they are so cheap. Great for making appointments and in case of an emergency. However, my $18 cell phone isn´t working so I´ll see how good customer service is here in Guatemala. It helps that the store is right now to the House of Chocolate where they sell the most divine dark chocolate. If I can´t get my phone fixed, I´ll at least have a New Year´s Eve feast of chocolate. No matter what, it will be an amazing day!
