One of my readers emailed me this week to ask me a few questions about traveling and volunteering abroad. He made a comment that really provoked this blog post.
Jim said, “ it looks like you are living your dream. Most of us never take that step away from routine to experience the world.”
And as I have watched my bouquet of rose buds as pictured above not blossom into full flowers, I have thought of Jim´s words.
Most people never blossom into who they fully can be. They stay closed, safe and hidden away. To fully open and blossom takes courage, faith and trust. Three qualities that many are sadly lackly.
Jim and his wife had decided to go backpacking through Europe for their 25th wedding anniversary and had a blast. Now about to retire, they are looking at exploring further and being of service with their gifts. My heart sang when I read Jim´ s email. They will have so many amazing experiences being open to new countries, new adventures and new friends. They are in for a treat.
What about you? Are you a bud or a full blossom? Do you play it safe or do you trust? How you answer that question will definitely determine the quality of life you enjoy.
Thankfully, the dozen roses cost me less than $3 which is the good thing in Guatemala. A so-so meal, flowers that don´t open, an exotic piece of fruit that´s bad is not the least bit catastrophic because of the incredibly low prices. However, what I have experienced overall has been great food, beautiful flowers and luscious fruits and vegetables. Not to mention the incredible massages and bodywork to live for.
Tomorrow I am having a four hour session with a psychic energy healer from South Africa. Apparently she is amazing. I´ll let you know!
In the meantime, remember to ask the question: Am I a bud or a blossom? It´s an important question.
